Prevention
Gastritis often can be prevented by limiting or avoiding exposure to known triggers (e.g., aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs [NSAIDs; e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen], tobacco, alcohol, caffeine).
The following measures also can be helpful:
- Develop good eating habits (smaller meals, eating more slowly)
- Exercise regularly
- Maintain a healthy weight
- Reduce stress (e.g., through meditation, yoga, tai chi, or massage)
